“Remember”
by Susanne Scheppmann

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1 (NIV)

“What is Memorial Day, Mom?” my son asked when he was young.

Good question! Many people consider Memorial Day as the three-day-weekend that celebrates the beginning of summer.

However, Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday that commemorates U.S. men and women who have died in military service to their country. The day is observed on the last Monday of May. Traditionally, the graves of military troops are decorated and remembered for their ultimate sacrifice.

Perplexing Proverbs: A Bible Study for Women is a ten-week study that applies the wisdom of the Proverbs to ten primary concerns (heart-prints) in a woman’s life.

In God We Trust
In God We Remember

I will bring them honor,
and they will not be disdained. (Jeremiah 30:19b NIV)

This month I have the honor and privilege of speaking to the Nellis Air Force Base P.W.O.C. (Protestant Women of the Chapel) My own heritage is steeped in the military life. My father fought in World War II. He held great pride as a Marine and taught me   never to take for granted the freedom we have in America.

Then I experienced life as a military wife. I understand the sacrifices that military families experience as they serve our country. But blessings occur, too. My first child was born in Okinawa, Japan at Kadena Air Force Base.

This month we celebrate Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day. As we kick-off the summer with the three-day weekend, let uss remember and honor our military. Say a prayer for the safety of our active duty troops and honor those who have given their lives.

Faith means believing in advance what will only make sense in reverse.
